Summary

Vivienne is a Western Australian writer and performer, working in poetry, fiction, performance and spoken word. She is most inspired by the big questions of the day and the small moments that link us all. She’s at her most creative when blending music, sound, text, light and movement in live performance.
Vivienne enjoys chairing sessions and presenting at Writers Festivals and she has also been invited to several writing residencies in Australia and abroad.
Vivienne is committed to community arts and inclusivity and works with Afeif Ismail transcreating his poetry and plays into English.
Vivienne holds a PhD from the University of Western Australia, which researched representations of science in performance, and is a book reviewer and theatre critic.

Biography

Vivienne's novel 'Semblance' is short-listed for the 2023 Dorothy Hewett Award. Described by the judges as "a big-hearted eco-novel set [that] pulses with a fierce immediacy, dense with the sense impressions of forest life."

She has two poetry collections, 'The Softness of Water' (Sunline Press) and 'A Simple Rain' (Letholgica Press) and her work has appeared in Journals and Anthologies, (including Westerly, TEXT, Blue Dog, Colloquy, Mascara).
Vivienne works with Afeif Ismail as co-transcreator of his poems and plays into English. 'The African Magician' was nominated for an AWGIE (2011).
She has been invited to residencies with Arts Catalyst, London, Djerassi Resident Artist Programme, San Francisco, Peter Cowan Writers Centre, Perth, Stages/Cummins Theatre, Merredin (WA) and Bush Retreat for Ecowriters (BREW), New South Wales.
She has written over twenty book and theatre reviews for publications such as The Conversation, Australian Book Review, Mascara, The Australia Times.
Vivienne offers workshops on poetry and playwriting and works as a dramaturge.
