writingWA is pleased to advise that WRITER IN LIBRARY funds are currently available for member Libraries to access across three distinct categories:
  • General Fiction and Non-Fiction (Writers in Libraries – Regional and Metro),
  • Poetry (Poets in Libraries), and
  • Children’s Literature (Premier’s Summer Reading Challenge 2008/9).

Details for each funding stream are provided below.

Authors and Publications to consider:

Alice Nelson, The Last Sky Alice is the most recent recipient of the TAG Hungerford Award for The Last Sky, a beautiful and impressionistic evocation of life in Hong Kong during the lead-up to the handover of the colony to China.

Marcella Polain, The Edge of the World Marcella is both a novelist and poet and The Edge of the World is described as ‘a monumental story of an Armenian family, spanning one hundred years, five countries and several generations’.

Glyn Parry, Ocean Road. Glyn is an experienced public speaker, teacher and workshop leader based in Gerladton. He is well known as an author of young adult fiction. Ocean Road is his first work of fiction for adults.

Donna Mazza, The Albanian. Donna is the 2004 recipient of the TAG Hungerford Award for The Albanian – the story of a young woman from small country-town Australia, longing for mystery, adventure and the exotic.

Geoff Bolton’s new release Land of Vision and Mirage is already undergoing a reprint! While being both informative and analytical, the author’s wry observations about Western Australia’s unique history will stimulate public debate.

The Sinkings is Amanda Curtin’s first book and is an extremely well crafted novel based on historical events near Albany. Destined to be a book club favourite. Amanda is also an experienced editor and workshop facilitator.

Conversations with the Mob by Megan Lewis has been a major success and Megan has been in high demand for talks – she was a hit at Sydney Writer’s Festival. Conversations with the Mob is a stunning collection of over 100 photographs with oral stories capturing the beauty, humour, sadness and friendship of a traditional Aboriginal community grappling with the demands of Western culture.

WHAT THE FUNDS CAN BE USED FOR:

writingWA Writer in Library funding can be used to pay the author’s fee. We will provide $300.00 for a 1 hour author talk/reading. We are also happy to consider payment of fees in relation to writing workshops – so if you want to partner with a local writing group or host a workshop in the Library then please let us know.

If you are a regional library and your author is visiting from outside your region, we will also provide funds to cover the author’s travel expenses.

Please also clarify if you have already contacted the author and confirmed their availability for the date requested.
